The Basics

Character Name ;; Claire Littleton
Nicknames ;;
Age ;; 22
Date Of Birth ;; October 27, 1982

What You See

Appearance ;;
Claire has long wavy blonde hair and choppy bangs that reach just above her eyes – although since the crash they have grown quite long. She normally wears it in a half ponytail or tied up in a bun, eager to keep it out of the way in the humid air of the jungle. Her eyes are blue and childlike in appearance. They always appear soft even when angry or upset with someone. She has a small button nose and pale pink lips.

Her complexion is fair, although she has managed to prevent burning from the direct sunlight that the Island provides. Her build is fairly petite, and she is shorter than most. After the birth of Aaron, Claire regained her small figure fairly quickly, most likely due to the influence of the Island’s mysterious nature. She’s normally dressed in clothing that allows her to move around fairly quickly and also keep her cool. She’s rarely seen without her son, still fearful for his protection against the others.

Let Me Surprise You

Personality ;;
Claire has always been a sensitive soul, often bringing out that side in her fellow survivors on the island. She develops emotional attachments quite easily. Her first impression on most people is that they are good – until proven otherwise. She has trouble believing that there are people in the world whose main goal is to better their own situation without any regard for others. Unfortunately, her time on the Island has proven her otherwise in the case of certain others.

She’s firm when she has a certain belief, but she knows when to accept that she’s wrong. She’s able to forgive and forget, although it might take a bit of effort on the part of the offender to win her love back. She’s very rarely stubborn, unless put in the position of having to deal with someone who just won’t get an idea through their thick head *coughSawyercough*.

However, for the most part, she’s a loveable woman with an adorable child. She’s extremely hopeful, even in times of extreme danger or loss and is rarely brought down by the conditions around her. She can make the best of anything, and when someone tries to prove her wrong, she’s quick to give an equal argument proving her right once more.

Other ;; she’s got a cute kid!

I'll Love You

Partner/Spouse ;; Charlie Pace?
Children ;; Aaron Littleton
Mother ;; Carole Littleton
Father ;; Christian Shephard
Siblings ;; half-brother Jack Shephard
Other Important People ;; Aunt Lindsey

Hidden Behind It All

History Before ;;
Claire was born to Carole Littleton, a single mother living in Sydney, Australia. She was the illegitimate child of an affair between her mother and her father, Dr. Christian Shephard. As she grew older, her father stopped visiting her as a result of her Aunt Lindsey’s incessant hatred towards him. She grew up with her mother alone, although her aunt remained an obstructive force in the family’s life.

As Claire grew older, she became more rebellious – as most teenagers do. She got a job working at a tattoo parlor, died her blond hair darker to black, and dressed in mostly dark clothes. She became more short with her mother and gradually the majority of their talks ended in fights, rather than the loving life they had always shared before her rebellious streak began. But teenagers will be teenagers, and Claire assumed that she had her entire life to love her mother – these few years of anger wouldn’t matter all that much in the long run.

Unfortunately, for Carole Littleton, this wasn’t the case. During one of their arguments while Claire was driving in the car, a large passing truck cut the small car off and forced them off of the road. Claire managed out of the wreckage with only a broken arm, but her mother hadn’t been so lucky. When Claire woke in the hospital, she was told that her mother was in a coma. Her Aunt Lindsey was less than sympathetic towards the young girl, refusing to blame anyone but Claire for the state of her sister.

These events were what led to Claire meeting her father for the first time since he had stopped visiting her as a young child. As a doctor, he came to request that she not keep her mother on life support, asking that she take her out of her misery. Claire refused his request and demanded that he leave her alone, not even wanting to know his name. She didn’t believe that he had ever cared anything for her, or else he wouldn’t have chosen his other family over hers.

Claire kept her mother on life support for quite some time. She visited regularly and always shared any news she might have with her mother. Claire grew her hair out from the black she had died it, and matured greatly in the years following the car crash. She met Thomas, fell in love, and they bought a small apartment together. However, she was working as a waitress for minimum wage and he was an aspiring artist and they were not prepared when Claire discovered that she was pregnant.

She was immediately doubtful, not sure that they would be able to care for a child. Thomas, however, felt that this was just what they needed to make their relationship complete. He convinced her that having a child would make them stronger and that they were definitely ready for it. Pleased that Thomas wanted the child, Claire conceded and chose not to get rid of the child. However, a few months into the pregnancy, Thomas quite suddenly changed his mind on the entire situation. He left Claire to raise the child as a single mom. Claire decided that adoption would be the best option.

Attempting to cheer up her best friend after Thomas had left, Rachel brought Claire to see a pshycic – considering Claire’s love for astrology and horoscopes. However, the psychic Richard Malkin did anything but cheer up Claire. In fact, he frightened her by vehemently demanding that she not put the child up for adoption, claiming that unless she raised the child it would turn out “bad.” Claire was aghast at the prospect of what he was telling her, and left his home with a lot of anger towards the man.

After nearly four months of constantly badgering the young mother-to-be, Richard changed his tactic. He offered her a plane ticket and traveling money to fly to Los Angeles and have the child there and give it to them. Happy that she had found an adoptive family to take her child (her first family hadn’t gone through due to doubts on her part due to Richard’s incessant warnings) she accepted the offer gratefully and boarded Oceanic Flight 815.

History Now ;;
Claire was one of the survivors of the middle section of the plane. In the first few moments after the crash, she didn’t even realize that she had survived a plane crash. Instead, she was focused on the labor pains coming from her eight-month old child. However, after settling down slightly from the shock of the crash, she realized that it had indeed been a false labor, although she was still nervous considering she hadn’t felt the baby move by the third day. Although later on during the third day after the crash, her baby kicked and she decided then that she thought it was going to be a boy.

Gradually, as time went on, Claire began to develop bonds with the fellow survivors. Her down-to-earth nature and friendliness made it easy for nearly everyone to like the pregnant woman, and she especially grew close with Charlie Pace, an ex-member from a somewhat popular band in England. After a while, Charlie convinced her to move into the caves away from the direct sunlight that was causing her dehydration. However, this move was the beginning of the worst trauma of Claire’s life.

She began having visions and nightmares of someone injecting a needle into her stomach, giving the appearance of a stranger attempting to harm her unborn child. After a few days of reoccurring nightmares, Claire decided she would be safer on the beach and left in a hurry, Charlie following her close behind. On her way back to the beach, however, Claire began having contractions – her second false labor since the crash. But even this wasn’t the worst part, as she and Charlie were soon knocked unconscious and dragged off into the jungle by an Other imposter – Ethan.

Her memories from her time with Ethan were scattered at first, but now she has managed to remember the majority of them as time has gone on. She was heavily drugged her entire time while in “captivity” with Ethan and the Others, and kept in a room built especially for her baby. She was regularly injected with the needle and vaccine that was to “keep her baby healthy”. Ethan treated her nicely during her time there, regardless of himself being the reason she was drugged and not acting of her own will. She was led to believe that they were going to keep her child – similar to the adoption plans she had arranged before ever boarding flight 815.

However, her comfort with the Others was cut short when a teenage girl – later known to her as Alex – approached Claire, forcing her to leave the station. While Claire was reluctant (regardless of the operation room that proved the Other’s intentions were less than pure) Alex chloroformed the pregnant woman and dragged her out of the station and into the woods. Claire woke up – disoriented, distressed, and still drugged – where she was met by Danielle who knocked her out again, leaving her in a place where she eventually stumbled upon her fellow survivors.

Following her escape from the Others camp, Claire lost all of her memories – including those of her time with the Survivors. She had to attempt to make bonds with everyone, all over again, which was hard considering the position she had put them in. With her escape, Ethan had taken to killing off members of the camp – one at a time until he had Claire returned to him. When she discovered this, she forced the other Survivors to allow her to help remedy the situation; she became live bait to trap Ethan. The plan worked extremely well, although before they had a chance to interrogate him, Charlie appeared and shot the man dead.

Claire gave birth to her baby with the help of Kate and Jin in the middle of the jungle. Her birth was without complications – aside from the few moments where Claire refused to believe she was actually going to have the child, refusing to push. The baby was left without a name for quite some time, although the entire camp banded together to protect the child from the threat that the Others provided. The group protection worked, until Danielle managed to sneak the child away, hoping to trade the infant for her own daughter – lost sixteen years prior. Charlie managed to save baby Aaron, and upon returning him to Claire, their bond was all but renewed.

Their relationship wavered, however, as Claire began to feel that Charlie felt he was the father of Aaron and as Charlie began to keep secrets from her. Between finding out about Charlie’s herion addiction and his dreams which caused him to steal Aaron from his crib late at night, Claire all but withdrew from any interaction with him at all. Her anger gradually cooled, and they reunited when Charle gave her a vaccine kit for the baby, hoping to prevent the infant from the disease. With the implosion of the hatch, and her near death by falling-hatch-door, Claire was relieved to see that Charlie had managed to make his way out of the implosion safely and kissed him – officially reconciling the two.
